Shanghai (6341 km²), with a population of 16 million inhabitants, is on the Huangpu river, and is one of the most cosmopolitan cities of China. It is “a beautiful” city mixing traditional and modern architecture. Today, Shanghai is a Chinese business and finance center and one of the most active ports of China. The district Pudong de Shanghai with its skyscrapers, in the east of the Huangpu river, quickly became an important center for the transnational companies with activities in China and Asia.

Bund

The most famous avenue of China extends on more than 1,6 km along the Huangpu river. It was known as the “Wall Street” of Asia and is bordered of buildings of the style of the years 1930. One of the most famous and elegant buildings is the Peace hotel, recently restored. He dominates the port and offers splendid sights. The park which skirts Bund is a popular place of appointment for Chinese and foreign visitors and artists. In the small streets one sees shops and charming restaurants of the style of the years 1920 and 1930.

The street of Nanjing

They are the “5 Avenue” of Shanghai and the ultimate place for shopping. It offers the largest variety of stores, restaurants, gifts shops and intimate night clubs in China.

The Jade Buddhas Temple (Yufo si, 170 Anyuan Lu, 08:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 17:00)

Two of the most famous jade Buddhas are sheltered in this temple. Each statue is worked in only one piece of white jade. One is in a sitting position (1,90 m height), and the other statue is in a reclining position (0,96 m length), which is rare.

The Old City

It is easy to be lost in the narrow and sinuous lanes of the old town of Shanghai. One can stroll in the local bazaar, seek traditional artisanal objects, cross the basin to eat or drink tea in the Huxinting tearoom and then to rest in the Garden of the purple Clouds of the autumn. The Fangbang Zhonglu street (825 m) shows the historical evolution of Shanghai from the Ming and Qing to the People's Republic of China.

The Yuyuan garden

Located Anren Jie, this garden of the 16th century is a labyrinth of picturesque houses, basins, dragons out of stone, trees and flowers which surround the bridge in zigzag. It is one of the best examples in China of the gardens and architecture of the Ming dynasty.

The Children Palace

Formerly the house of a Shanghai millionaire, it is now a place where the children come to study the scenic arts, old artisanal work, as well as modern sciences and technologies. It is a true paradise for photographers.
